Final Events of 2013

Wow, what a difference this fall compared to last! The weather has been perfect for getting out and spinning and we’re hoping it lasts a little longer. Here are a couple events we are planning for the rest of 2013:

Flint Hills Nature Trail Family Fall Ride – Saturday, Oct 5th, Osawatomie

This is our most family friendly and laid back ride of the year. Free to members, and only 10$ to non members, we will ride on the scenic Flint Hills Nature Trail from Osawatomie. We offer 2 ride lengths with both starting at John Brown Park. The longer, faster paced ride leaves at 7 am and will go all the way to Ottawa and back. The shorter, more popular ride will leave at 9 am and travel to Rantoul and back. Both rides will unite in Rantoul for the ride back to the park.

After the ride, stick around for a social and enjoy hot dogs courtesy of MiCo Velo. We ask if you stay to eat, please bring a side dish or dessert and your own drinks.

Even though there is no charge, we ask that you register at so we get a head count for food.

Lost Trail CX – Saturday and Sunday, Nov 23 and 24th, Louisburg Cider Mill

Our second year putting this race on, this year should really be fun. Lost Trail is now part of Series 60, so our numbers should increase, and well, 2 days of racing is better than one. New to cyclo-cross? Come on out and enjoy the intense, fan friendly form of racing. Better yet, start conditioning yourself now (think 30+ minutes of sprinting!) and try out cycling’s fastest growing discipline.

Rock & Roll to Roots 2013 Final Info

Saturday is shaping up to be a great ride. Before we get into the details, please remember THIS IS NOT A RACE. Pace yourself, be safe, and have fun. Helmets are required for all MiCo Velo rides, if you don’t have it you don’t ride, no exceptions. If you are riding with children, take a minute and make sure they know the rules and are safe and enjoy themselves as well.

We really think our Roots Festival is worth an entire day. Bands usually get better as the day goes, but there is great music and a relaxing and fun atmosphere all day. There is also a full day of music Friday as well. Please stick around, wear your shirt, use your cup and enjoy the day…We Do!

Now for the updates, it’s a lot so hopefully we answered all your questions…

Ride Headquarters

Wallace Park location – this year’s ride will start and end in Wallace Park in Paola. There are 2 entrances to the park, one off Osage Street and one off Silver Street. We will be located at the shelter on top of hill near basketball court. A map has been posted on Facebook at for those not familiar with how to get to Wallace Park.

Parking – All entrants will need to park at the lot near Rock Stadium or at the swimming pool. The pool is closer but may be open that day so the Rock Stadium lot may be better. You may also park downtown near the Roots festival and ride to Wallace park.

Check in times for all rides – Please check in at least 30 min prior to your ride. You will need to sign a waiver and pay if you […]

Check in starts at 8:30 am. and lasts until Noon. Please check in at least 1/2 hour prior to riding.

Course will open at 9:30 and you can ride on your own or join one of the group led rides. Group 1 rolls out at 10 am. and will visit Middlecreek then Somerset and back to Nighthawk. Group 2 at Noon to Middlecreek and back to Nighthawk. Group 3 leaves at 12:30 and will ride to Somerset and back.

Please support the Wineries on tour by purchasing your fav bottle (or 2) and we will have it delivered to the finish. Also need to thank Bikesource, who will be at Somerset to help any that need it and Miami County’s own Bicycle Doctor, Dale Dollar who will be set up at Middlecreek.

Great food from the Cajun Cabin will be available for purchase after the ride. Blues group Shannon and the Rythm King Band will perform at Nighthawk starting at 4pm.
