The inaugural MiCo Velo Board met Dec 26th. Board officers were selected and are:
President – Scott Dreiling
VP – Joe Knecht
Secretary – Rajesh Khemraj
Treasurer – Jeremy Smail.
Other Board members are Rob White, Randy Rasa, Greg Rupp, Scott McKaskill, Paul Bechtel and Mike McPherson. This group is a good one as most of the larger communities (Paola, Louisburg and Osawatomie) are represented, as well as Linn and Johnson Counties. There’s a lot of work to do to get this club rolling and official. Over the next few months the board will be focusing on becoming a non-profit organization, getting club insurance, creating and amending By Laws, determining membership structure and other fun official stuff. Stay tuned for more info as it comes…

For those of you that attended our initial members meeting in September, you’ll remember we talked about forming a Board of Directors. Well, it’s time to make this club ‘official.’
We would really like to have another member or two from one of the other county communities other than Paola so your concerns are voiced. This first year will be an important one as we will be laying the foundation for MiCo Velo’s future. If interested in volunteering yourself or another member, please contact the ‘Chain Gang’ through the Web site or directly. Remember, to make a difference and have your concerns heard, you must get involved. Lets get this organization started off right!
Look for the first board meeting date to be posted soon. All members are welcome to the board meetings, however, only board members may vote on issues.
Everyone should have received an email with info on a MiCo Velo Members discount to Body Maxx Fitness. Check back here for ‘group ride’ dates or our own designated spin classes.
Take advantage of the nice days and remember to Grab Your Bike and Ride… even if it’s a stationary one.

Legend of the headless rider...
Calling all Miami County mountain bikers or potential mountain bikers. This may be the last group ride before these trails are gone. The land is for sale, trails are in great shape, and it’s a beautiful setting. Fun for the kids, good food cooked over the fire, great company, over 6 miles of trails through some spectacular scenery, primitive camping available. If this sounds like a good time, join us.
What: Trick or Treat and Trails
When: Saturday, Oct 30th. 3 pm till ?
Details: Festivities start at 3pm. We’ll ride till around dusk and eat. We’ll do some kids stuff like haunted hike or candy search – think easter egg hunt but in the dark along the trails – and spooky campfire stories. Then, we’ll saddle up for some night riding so bring your lights. We’re open to other ideas, and if anyone wants to help, please email me at scottdreiling@att.net. Primitive camping will be availabe. If kids (or adults) wish to wear their costumes, we could do a costume contest. Any help with halloween decorations like jack-o-lanterns, strobe lights (cordless), scarecrows, etc would be appreciated. This event is co-sponsored by the Earthriders Mountain Bike Club from the KC area.

Hope everyone is getting out and riding in this great weather we’ve had. I know we had a great time riding the sweet trails in arkansas. Here’s what I’ve got for the next few weeks:
- Hump Day Ride – not sure we can do this anymore at 6. It’s getting dark quicker and after the time change will be impossible without lights. Look for the post in the community forum about this and share your thoughts. I guess we’ll try this week but this may be the last one till spring….
- Trick or Treat and Trail – trying to set up an Halloween themed event at my land and trails for mountain bikers and their kids. Watch for more info in the community forum and through email.
- Be sure and check out the Community forum at http://micovelo.com/message-forum/ . There seems to be only a few people using it as of now. It’s real easy, all you do is pick a user/password, click on the header and post away. You can create a new subject or reply to one that’s there. I’m thinking some of you that reside in the communities other than Paola could set up weekend rides…
That’s it for now…think up a great Halloween costume and make sure you ‘Grab Your Bike and Ride’
