The trails were a little slimy and slippery, but there was still a good turnout for this years KC Cup mountain bike races. The kids’ races were really fun. Jaden Knecht placed 3rd and Nash Dreiling 2nd in 8-12 age division. Cruz Dreiling placed 1st in 7-under division. Good showing for MiCo Velo kids. :D

Cruz Dreiling on the podium.

3 adult members competed. Joe Knecht rode and did very well in one of the toughest divisions, Cat 2 men 30-39. Dan Dreiling placed 5th in the Cat 2 men 50+. Scott Dreiling placed 2nd in the single speed division. Watch for new pics in the Gallery soon.

Thanks to everyone that came to the meeting friday night. We had a pretty good turnout and the discussion went really well. Its obvious that this is a passionate group that is ready to make some changes in Miami County. If you’re interested in becoming a board member, please contact us through the site or just let us know when you see us. We’d like to have a board set in the next month.

In the next week or so look for posts in the forum pertaining to the board and issues that we discussed last night. If you’d like to bring up a topic on your mind, start a post yourself. I’m sure there are a lot more great ideas out there from the folks that didn’t attend the meeting.

Thanks – Chain Gang

I know, I’ve emailed and posted 3 reminders here on the site, but we really want everyone to be there! 6:30, El Tap in Paola. Bring all your great ideas. It’s time to make a difference in our communities. Families are welcome. If you know someone who is thinking about joining, bring them along too.

The seasons are changing and that means much cooler riding conditions.  We’re starting to see the calendar fill up a little so I wanted to remind everyone of a couple things.

Don’t forget about the first MiCo Velo members meeting next Friday, Sept 17th. Please bring any and all ideas for improving Miami county’s bike atmosphere. We’re hoping for a great turnout and lots of ideas!

Tomorrow, Saturday Sept 11th, there are couple of events posted. First, new member George Kellerman has offered to host and lead rides every saturday starting at the Prairie View High School parking lot. He says most routes are between 1 1/2 to 2 hrs long and the first few will be No Drop rides. That means the group will stay together so nobody gets lost or left behind. George’s contact is gakellerman@gmail.com if you have any questions. Thanks George!

Also new this week is a night mountain bike ride at the Dreiling’s property, north of Lacygne. If you’ve never ridden trails at night it’s a lot of fun! We’ll have a camp fire going during and after the ride. Email Scott at scottdreiling@att.net if interested or for directions.

Hump Day rides will continue from the Paola High School parking lot at 6 pm on wednesdays. The first ride there were only 2 riders (including myself). This week we had 4. Come on out, the more riders we have the better the chances of finding someone your speed.

Check out the latest article in the local papers at http://www.herald-online.com/2010090810783/news/community-news/cycling-club-created-for-county.html. It was written by new member Brandon Steinert, thanks Brandon!

Sorry it’s taking longer than expected with the ‘community’ forum. We (well Joe, not me) are trying to work out the bugs.

Careful riding the roads around the Paola area. The county is currently working on ruining the roads for skinny tires, otherwise known as chip n sealing. Roads may have a lot of loose gravel…

That’s it for now. Grab Your Bike and Ride!
